Hi Tweets,

Just though I would mention what I saw this morning on my trip to the
North Beach of Discovery Park.

Birds of note included:

Common Tern (outnumbered by the Caspian Terns)
Caspian Tern
Mew Gull (not really notable but I inluded it anyway)
Franklin's Gull (with a group of Bonaparte's Gulls)
Heerman's Gull (see note below)

The escaped stork was present. I was surprised to see the Heerman's
gulls. There were ten of them, and when I checked Hunn's "Birding In
Seattle and King County" I found out that as of the publishing date,
there was a single record for LATE August, and they really don't start
beeing seen around here until the second week of October. So I ask you,
were these birds out of season?

I checked Golden Gardens on my way home for the Vesper Sparrow reported
by Jason Starfire to the birdbox. I saw what was probably it, with the
flashy white tail edging, but in the brief seconds that I saw it, I
didn't see the chestnut shoulder patches I was expecting from looking at
my field guide last night.

Finally, I end with a question about Black Terns. Is there anywhere
really in King County, or Snohomish County that I have a resonablly good
chance of seeing one? When is the best time to go?

Thanks,

Michael Dossett
