Tweets,
Last summer I put a small recirculating waterfall / fish pond in my
backyard. Checking last night, the number of species taking water
from my yard has basically doubled since installing it, inc. some
unusual birds like Rufous Hummingbird. Although chipmunks were rare
fall vagrants through the yard, the lure of running water convinced a
pair to stay year round, and we now have about a dozen running around
the backyard. Well, this brought in a juvenile Red-tailed this
morning, who flew from the top of the grill, to the top of the bird
feeder, to the top of the house, etc. trying to nab one of the
chipmunks. After about 30 minutes of fruitless labor, the hawk flew
down to the waterfall and promptly plopped down in it. After a few
drinks, it was off.
