Hey tweeters,

Some among you have expressed interest in the proposed Washington Park
Arboretum redevelopment. I am hosting a debate/presentation/discussion for
my Urban Forest Landscapes class on Tuesday, August 18, and this
presentation is open to the public. Clem Hamilton, Director of the Center
for Urban Horticulture, will present the Arboretum redevelopment plan, the
Arboretum Park Preservation Coalition will present their response to the
proposed redevelopment, and I will present my own view of the issue. There
will be a Q&A period following the presentation. I urge you to attend
because this is a great opportunity to find out what all the fuss is about.
There are some good ideas in the plan, there are some questionable ideas in
the plan, there are some bad ideas in the plan. I urge all Seattle
citizens--green space, open space, wildlife, and parks advocates,
Olmstedians, horticulturalists, and birders--to participate in the
discussion of the Arboretum Master Plan; it's a $46 million dollar
redevelopment, and number one on the list to pay for this expansion is a
bond issue. The presentation is about an hour.

Anderson is the Forest Resources building at the bottom of campus. Room 30
is in the basement. If you're not familiar with the UW, I'll be in front of
Anderson around 12:15. I'm tall, and I have long brown hair, and I look 35.
