Monday, August 10, 9:30 am. Hello this is Scott Atkinson reporting for
Sunday, August 9. Up at our place at 137th and Getcham (?) Hill Road. This
is roughly between Marysville and Granite Falls. Had a calling DUSKY
FLYCATCHER yesterday morning. We've also had regular visits of small groups
of RED CROSSBILLS for at least the last month or so.

Sunday, August 9, 10:02 pm. Hi this is Steven Mlodinow. Today Dennis Duffy
went out to the S...(?) Pond Along the east side of the pond had 3 EASTERN
KINGBIRDS at least one of which was a young bird. Also present there was a
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, and in the big ponds themselves, 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES.

Sunday, Aug. 9, 7:30 pm. Hi, this is Scott Downes. 361-7073. Spent this
morning and early afternoon birding Stampede Pass and Meadow Pass along the
King-Kittitas County line. Birds at Stampede Pass at the east end of Lizard
Lake had 2 female CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS, if you follow the path on Lizard
Lake on the Forest Service Road 54, take the next left, follow it up the
hill to a public parking area. There were 2 BLACK SWIFTS and a probable
female BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD. Get back on Forest Service Road 54 and
follow it until coming to Forest Service Road 50, take a right turn
followed by another right turn, on FS Road 5078, take this to Meadow Pass.
Here had 3 CLARK'S NUTCRACKERS and 2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES.

Sun, Aug. 9, 7:25 pm. Hi, this is Dave Beaudette. 206-365-2083. All of
these reports are for King County and the weekend of Aug. 8-9. On Sat.
morning at the Kent Ponds was a juvenal SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, and a
juvenal PECTORAL SANDPIPER. From here I birded the southeast corner of King
County, on locations accessed from Forest Service Road 70. Due to
construction, access to FS Rd 70 cannot be gained from the King County
side. I came in from the Yakima County side, along the Little Naches River.
That is road 19 then 1914, then road 787, to the King-Kittitas County line.
Use the Forest Service map from that point. At the burn on the Pacific
Crest, at the end of road 7036 on Sat. was a GOLDEN EAGLE. At dusk on Sat.
was a calling NORTHERN PYGMY OWL. And during Sat. night a family of GREAT
HORNED OWLS was heard. On Sunday were 2 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS, a CASSIN'S
VIREO, a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, a BLUE GROUSE, and a NORTHERN HARRIER. On
Sat. at the bog along FS Rd 70 east of Rd. 7080, was an adult CHIPPING
SPARROW and a hybrid TOWNSEND'S/HERMIT WARBLER. On Sunday there were 3
MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, 4 CASSIN'S FINCHES and a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER. At
the meadow just northwest of FS Rd 70 and Rd 210, was a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE
and a NASHVILLE WARBLER on Sat.

Sat, Aug 8, 6:51 pm. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today, in the afternoon
there was an EASTERN KINGBIRD feeding 2 fledged young near Snohomish. Take
Riverview Road, which goes along the north side of the Snohomish River,
west, just about a quarter mile past 69th Ave SE. The birds were on some
wires on the west side of the road. Also in the last couple of days, purple
martins have been quite evident, north of the public boat launch in
Everett.

Sat, Aug. 8, 1:12 pm. This is Michael Dossett. 206-542-5877. This morning
I birded the north beach of Discovery Park, at low tide. Highlights of the
trip included 3 CASPIAN TERNS among the COMMON TERNS, there were also 10
HEERMAN'S GULLS as well as 2 BONAPARTE'S and 1 FRANKLIN'S GULL. The escaped
WOOD STORK was also present. There was a sparrow which could possibly be
the VESPER'S SPARROW, reported by Jason Starfire at Golden Gardens. It had
white on the sides of the tail. However, I did not notice chestnut shoulder
patches before it disappeared.

Wednesday, Aug. 5, 3:16 p.m. Hi. This is Jason Starfire (206) 542-3756. A
belated report from Monday. I had one VESPER'S SPARROW at Golden Gardens in
Seattle. Also that day, Barry Lyons, a California birder, lost a 30x wide
eyepiece to his Kowa at Crockett Lake on Whidbey Island. Give me a call if
you find it and I'll
get it to him. Good luck and good birding.
