This is Dale Goble with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

On August 8th, Jane Westervelt visited Mann Lake east of Lewiston,
Idaho. In addition to the usual sandpipers, she found a BAIRD
SANDPIPER and a possible WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER.

To reach Mann Lake from the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12
West south into town, cross the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge
and immediately take the first left (east) toward East Lewiston. Turn
left (east) onto East Main Street and go about a half mile to the
flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto Lapwai (a.k.a. Lindsay
Creek) Road. At mile 1.5 the road forks; stay right on Lindsay Creek
Road (Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles to its
terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and just
past the sharp right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue
(a.k.a. Lapwai Road). Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to
the main parking lot. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

On August 10th, Shirley Sturts, Kris Buchler, Roger Young and Bill
Gundlach found 4 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT and at least 4
CASPIAN TERN at Cougar Bay on Coeur d'Alene Lake. Cougar Bay is
just south of Coeur d'Alene along Highway 95.

Also on August 10th, Shirley Sturts, Kris Buchler, Roger Young, Bill
Gundlach, George and Katie Saylor and Janet Allen found an
AMERICAN REDSTART at Mica Bay, on Coeur d'Alene Lake. Since
they survey the bay every other week and it was the first one sighted,
it apparently is migrating. Mica Bay is on page 60 at B-1 of the Idaho
Delorme.

On August 11th, Bill Gundlach found a Greater Yellowlegs on the
Coeur d'Alene River near Kingston. Take I-90 east from Coeur d'Alene
to the Pinehurst/Kingston exit; go north on Forest Road 9. Look along
the river banks between I-90 and Enaville. Idaho Delorme page 61 at
B-C 3-4.

Finally, if you are heading to Boise, you might want to visit the banding
operation at Lucky Peak Reservoir just east of town. Jay Carlisle
reports that they have banded approximately 30 species in the past
few days. Directions to the banding station can be found in the
_Birder's Guide to Idaho_. They will be banding through October 15th.
