update.

Rare bird alert for a possible LITTLE GULL.

The female XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD continues to be seen daily in Gibsons
although less frequent . The homeowner requests that birders phone ahead
to arrange a time to visit and directions. Please call Lynn at 604
886-3338.

Sightings for Friday, August 14th
A possible LITTLE GULL was observed and photographed at Point Roberts
Lighthouse Park with a flock of BONAPARTE'S GULLS. This was a single
observer sighting and confirmation is desired. Also in this flock was a
FRANKLIN'S GULL.

On a boat tour of West Vancouvers Bird & Grebe Islets the following birds
were reported: 8 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 1 BLACK TURNSTONE, 3 PIGEON
GUILLEMOTS, 14 HARLEQUIN DUCKS and 60 SURFBIRDS.

A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was observed on the NW pond at Iona.

An AMERICAN DIPPER was sighted on the Brunette River between North Rd. and
Cariboo.

Three CRESTED MYNAS were seen at Hudson and Marine in Vancouver. Other
spots to look for this species is Burrard & 2nd, and Wylie & 2nd also in
Vancouver.

Thursday, August 13th
An OPSPREY was observed taking a large goldfish from a display pond at the
Surrey City Hall.

A PEREGRINE was seen at MacDonald and 8th in Vancouver.

Pt. Roberts' Lily Point was the location of a WANDERING TATTLER.

Wednesday, August 12th
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were observed from 92nd & Scott Rd. with 2 being reported
with a further 6 near the intersection of Pitt River Rd. & MacLean in Port
Coquitlam.

An OSPREY was seen fishing at Deer Lake.

Reorted from Boundary Bay between 96th and 88th were 1 PEREGRINE, a
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, and a STILT SANDPIPER.

Tuesday, August 11th
FRANKLIN'S GULLS were reported from 2. One perched on a bouy at the west
end of Spanish Banks and another at White Rock Beach. Also at White Rock
Beach was an immature PEREGRINE FALCON.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was observed near Nathan Creek & 80th in the Glen Valley
area.

A STILT SANDPIPER was present at the Beach Grove Lagoon.

A MERLIN made a flyover of the running track at Centennial High School on
Porier St. in Coquitlam.

Monday, August 10th
A MERLIN was observed taking a Robin in North Burnaby"s Montrose Park.

FOUR GREEN HERON were reported from Trinity Western on Glover Rd. in
Langley.

Sunday, August 9th
A GREEN HERON was reported from Colony Farm R.P.

Blackie Spit had observations of 4 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 2 LONG-BILLED CURLEW
and 3 CASPIAN TERN.

THREE RUFFED GROUSE were seen in Campbell Valley Park.
