Rare bird alert for a LITTLE GULL, CASSIN'S AUKLET & CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW.

The female XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD continues to be seen daily in Gibsons
although less frequently. The homeowner requests that birders phone ahead
to arrange a time to visit and directions. Please call Lynn at 604

Sightings for Sunday, August 16th
The LITTLE GULL was again observed at Point Roberts' Lighthouse Park along
with 3 FRANKLIN'S GULLS.

Our other 2 rarities were at Iona. The CASSIN'S AUKLET was seen in the
morning at the tip of the Iona Jetty. Also seen from the tip were 3
wandering tattlers, 2 PARASITIC JAEGERS and 200+ COMMON TERNS.

The CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW, an immature, was seen between the NE & SE sewage
ponds. Also seen at the ponds were 2 juv RED KNOT, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, an albino BARN SWALLOW, MERLIN and AMERICAN
KESTREL.

A GREEN HERON was reported from Sea Island.

It was a busy day at the Beach Grove Lagoon with a GREAT EGRET, 5
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, and a WILSON'S PHALAROPE,

At Blackie Spit were 2 PURPLE MARTINS, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW, and an OSPREY.

A RUDDY TURNSTONE was seen at the foot of 112th on Boundary Bay.

Saturday, August 15th
A juvenile LITTLE GULL confirmed and again sighted with a flock of
BONAPARTE'S GULLS at Point Roberts Lighthouse Park. Also in this same flock
were 3 juvenile FRANKLIN'S GULLS. A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and a PEREGRINE
FALCON were also sighted at this location.

Another RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and 2 PEREGRINES were observed between 96th &
88th on Boundary Bay.

>From Boundary Bay R.P. was a report of 10 CASPIAN TERNS and a WILSON'S
PHALAROPE.

A BRANT was observed from the Robert's Bank Jetty.

Reifel Refuge had reports of 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, a BLACKCROWNED NIGHT
HERON and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER.

FOUR OSPREY were sighted from the Fraser River Foreshore Park.

Another OSPREY was observed at Burnaby Lake.

NW of Lougheed Mall were a GREAT HORNED OWL and a PILEATED WOODPECKER.

Three CRESTED MYNAS were seen at the south end of the Cambie St. Bridge.

Friday, August 14th
On a boat tour of West Vancouvers Bird & Grebe Islets the following birds
were reported: 8 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 1 BLACK TURNSTONE, 3 PIGEON
GUILLEMOTS, 14 HARLEQUIN DUCKS and 60 SURFBIRDS.

An AMERICAN DIPPER was sighted on the Brunette River between North Rd. and
Cariboo.

Three CRESTED MYNAS were seen at Hudson and Marine in Vancouver. Other
spots to look for this species are Burrard & 2nd, and Wylie & 2nd also in
Vancouver.
