A couple weeks ago, I saw a bird that looked like a Song Sparrow except
the outer tail feathers were dull white. I puzzled over all the likely
birds in the guide, but nothing with a white outer feathers looked like a
Song Sparrow. It was in a clearing at about 2500 feet in the Mt
Baker/Snoqualmie NF. Then I looked at the bird again from a different
angle. (It was very cooperative.) The white outer feathers were gone! I
think initially the sunlight was hitting it an angle that gave the
illusion of white outer tail feathers to a Song Sparrow.
