This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for August 15,

On August 8 and 9, my son and I birded the Yakima Delta and observed the
following shorebirds: KILLDEER, AMERICAN AVOCET, GREATER and LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, SPOTTED, WESTERN, SEMIPALMATED, and LEAST SANDPIPERS,
SHORT-BILLED and LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, COMMON SNIPE, and WILSON'S and
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. We missed the single BAIRD'S SANDPIPER seen by
Craig Corder and Judy Stevens on August 9, but on August 10, Ruth Fischer,
Nancy LaFramboise and I found the BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and many of the other
shorebirds mentioned. Fewer shorebirds were noted on August 11 but there
was a SORA and VIRGINIA RAIL there.

Later on August 11, Nancy LaFramboise found a PINE SISKIN and a COOPER'S
HAWK along the Audubon Nature Trail in Columbia Park and Patty Pollari
reported a COOPER'S HAWK, EASTERN KINGBIRD, and female WESTERN TANAGER in
her West Richland yard.

I (Bob Woodley) had a WARBLING VIREO and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD in my yard that
day.

On August 12, Dee Lesser (?sp) observed a GREAT HORNED OWL in her Richland
yard and on August 13, Ruth Fischer found YELLOW and MACGILLIVRAY'S
WARBLERS along the Audubon Nature Trail.

Lastly, both yesterday and today I've had 2 RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS vying for
my feeder and other food sources in my yard.

We are approaching an excellent time for migrants, so sightings should
increase.
