Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday August 20. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A probable BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW was observed August 19 flying north
past Seal Rock State Wayside.

Shorebirding continues very good in Coos and Curry Counties. A PECTORAL
SANDPIPER was near Cape Blanco August 18; 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were
at Bandon August 14; and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at the North Jetty of
the Siuslaw River August 13.

The August 15 offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay found the usual
expected species including a PARASITIC JAEGER, a couple of SABINE'S
GULLS, and 4 ARCTIC TERNS.

The WHITE-TAILED KITES nesting in the Little Nestucca River Meadows
fledged 3 young by August 16. A probable family group are also at Finley
NWR.

A WHITE STORK, wearing green bands on each leg, has been seen all week on
the north side of the Portland Airport just off Marine Drive. It is most
often seen near the turnout where the hotdog stand is parked. A possible
second WHITE STORK was seen last weekend along Highway 99W west of
Dundee. Obviously escapees. The EMPEROR GOOSE was seen August 14 on the
Sandy River at Lewis and Clark State Park near Troutdale.

Shorebirding has been slow on Sauvie Island, but on August 15 a
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER were seen at Gay Lake on
the east side of the Island. WHITE-FRONTED GEESE are now moving through
Oregon, as are good numbers of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. The southward
migration is now well underway.

Two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS have been in a farm field north of Lebanon since
August 12.

During the past weekend a SANDERLING and a probable COMMON GOLDENEYE were
at Summer Lake Wildlife Area. A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at Lake Abert
last weekend.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at Malheur Refuge Headquarters August 13.

Thats it for this week.
