Here it is...I was at the Sandia Crest near Albuquerque, New Mexico, last
weekend (mid August),10,000 ft elevation, at about 6 pm. I saw (briefly) a
bird that seemed to be an empid. Upright perch, about the right size, gray
back and head, clean white upper breast, yellowish belly. Some white
abound the eye but not a clearly defined eye ring. Maybe darker gray on the
top of the head. At least one (maybe two?) poorly defined white wing bars.
I was about to call it "empidonax sp." when it started calling: a
repetitive (annoying?) harsh call on one note; similar to scold of a
Bewick's Wren, but of longer duration. Didn't sound like any flycatcher
I've ever heard...then I started thinking, could it be an unfamiliar vireo
and I'm just screwing up and turning it into a flycatcher?

Anyone got a guess?
