I birded at Wenas Lake this evening. Water level is quite low with lots of
mud. I found ten species of shorebirds:
Killdeer - 50+
Greater Yellowlegs - 2
Lesser Yellowlegs - 1
Solitary Sandpiper - 1
Spotted Sandpiper - 2
Common Snipe - 40+
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 3
Western Sandpiper - 30+
Lesser Sandpiper - 20+
Baird's Sandpiper - 6
There was an incredible movement of Common Nighthawks over the lake. In a
period of fifteen minutes over 250 nighthawks flew over the lake southbound.
Another 30-40 stayed around for about half an hour.
