Tweeters: On our walk in the Ponderosa neighborhood of Spokane this
morning we had the privilege of seeing the following activity: About six
magpies and a coopers hawk having a free for all in the woods. The
magpies would attack and gang up on the hawk and then many times over as
we watched the coopers would turn on one of the magpies and try to catch
it. It wasn't passive or on the defensive as the redtail was that was
being chased by a magpie at the same time. Later the coopers was
attacking the redtail!. Then we saw a Northern harrier kettling for
altitude over a forested hill where we never see them and don't expect to
see them. The raptors must be on the move south. We hope to get to the
Chelan hotspot late Sept or early Oct to catch some falll migration.
Incidentally, We checked the UW homepage and photo gallery for the first
time (a new computer) and must compliment Baccus, Converse, Sullivan et
al for some great photography. My 17" compaq shows them up great as it
does with the Thayer CD rom. Keep posting! Hans
