Michal Morrison, one of our biology staff, saw and heard two owls in
Steilacoom Park last evening (24 Aug). They called back and forth for some
time. She said they were big and without head tufts and, when I hooted like
both Barred and Great Horned owls, she unhesitatingly chose the Barred Owl
call. I don't know what the status of this species is in the Tacoma area,
but I submit this as a very probable Barred Owl pair.
