Tuesday, 8/25, 1:28 pm. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today Dennis Duffy and
I went to Skagit Game Range Headquarters The bird of the day was a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH. It was near the parking lot that is by the boat launch. Also a
NASHVILLE WARBLER was found along the gravel dike road that goes from the
other parking lot out to the marsh foreshore. Other interesting migrants
included MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER, BANK SWALLOW and PECTORAL SANDPIPER. At
the Samish Sewage Ponds were 2 more BANK SWALLOWS.

Monday, 8/24, 4:59 pm. Hi this is Hugh Jennings at 425-746-6351. This
morning a number of us went on a field trip to the Lake Sammamish State
Park. We had 29 species, but the highlight was 1 REDHEAD duck we saw at the
south beach area. We also saw 1 COMMON MERGANSER, a number of CALIFORNIA
GULLS along with GLAUCOUS-WINGED and RING-BILLED GULLS, BAND-TAILED PIGEON,
WESTERN WOOD PEE-WEE, and a number of CEDAR WAXWINGS.

Sunday, 8/23, 9:15 pm. Hi this is Steven Mlodinow. Today Jim Flynn, Steve
Pink and I started up at Vancouver and Iona Island. At Iona Island we had a
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, about 15-20 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, 10 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 20 SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, and a
SOLITARY SANDPIPER. Then along the shore of Boundary Bay, at the foot of
96th, we had a STILT SANDPIPER, a WILSON'S PHALAROPE, and about half a
dozen more PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. Down on Whidbey Island at Crockett Lake, we
failed to find the Buff-Breasted Sandpiper, but we had 2 STILT SANDPIPERS,
5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, a WILSON'S PHALAROPE and 5
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS.

Sunday, 8/23 7:07 pm. Hi this is Pete Hammill reporting a BARRED OWL
calling in the evening at Larabee State Park which is southwest of
Bellingham.

Saturday, 8/22 11:04 pm. Hi this is Scott Atkinson reporting for Aug 21 and
22. On 8/21 from the 7:10 run of the Kingston/Edmonds ferry, I had 5 alcid
species, most notable of which was an early juvenal ANCIENT MURRELET and
several MARBLED MURRELETS right off the Edmonds ferry berth area. A little
over half way across, approaching Kingston, I had an adult ARCTIC TERN, in
with several COMMON TERNS. Then on 8/22, out of 107 species, seen at Grays
Marsh which is mostly closed to the public but the beach is open, several
noteworthy birds starting with a first winter SABINE'S GULL, seen right off
the parking area for the public beach access. on the border with Jamestown,
this bird was in with a small group of BONAPARTE'S GULLS. Also on this
area, 2 SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, and 4 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. Further down
the beach in the driftwood/dune area, still from the public access, an
UPLAND SANDPIPER, at about 12 noon, seen well with Ann Winsky It was
thereafter heard only at about 3 pm just south of the end of the public
access. And close to the Grays Marsh site, we also had a juvenal STILT
SANDPIPER, and 2 early returning AMERICAN PIPITS and 2 early returning
LINCOLN SPARROWS.

Saturday, 8/22 11:36 am. This Scott Hoskins 206-789-8990. This morning at
the Auburn Clay Street Marsh, good numbers of shorebirds. 1 SEMI-PALMATED
PLOVER, about 20 KILLDEER, 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 15 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 8
LEAST SANDPIPERS, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 6 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Also
right out in the open was an adult VIRGINIA RAIL and also an adult male
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.

Friday, 8/21, 10:09 pm. This is Kevin (?)rude 206-523-6195. I birded most
of Friday afternoon at Crockett Lake, Whidbey Island, and I had several
interesting birds. Most unusual were the juvenal BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER,
which was still present when I left in an area behind the Casey Cove
restaurant. Also seen was 1 juvenal STILT SANDPIPER. 3 juvenal
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, a juvenal WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 1 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER, a juvenal FRANKILN'S GULL and 1 BANK SWALLOW.

Friday, 8/21, 11:02 am. Hello this is Wayne Weaver calling from Delta, B.C.
just to let Washington birders know, the XANTUS HUMMINGBIRD is still
present and being seen regularly at Gibsons northwest of Vancouver. It's in
a slightly different location from where it was last winter. If you want to
see this bird, please phone Lynn Thorsteinsen, 604-886-3338. The property
owner has asked that you phone in advance before you visit to look for this
bird.
There have been s few interesting birds in the Vancouver area the last 4 or
5 days. Yesterday, 8/20, an UPLAND SANDPIPER was at Iona Island, the day
before there was a BREWER'S SPARROW and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH there and on
8/16 there was a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW. On 8/16 and again on 8/18, a
CASSIN'S AUKLET reported off Pt Roberts in Whatcom County. I don't know how
well documented this is, but that would be a very unusual bird at this
inland location. For more information, on these and other Vancouver areas
birds, call 604-737-3704.

Friday, 8/21, 6:03 am. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette. 206-365-2083. In
Auburn on 8/20 in the late afternoon, an adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was
with KILLDEER at a pond and a nearby field to the west of that pond. This
area is just northwest of the intersection of the Interurban Trail and 37th
St. NW.
