Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday August 27. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The peak of the shorebird movement is now passing through with many
species being reported. PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, and
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were reported from many areas. A PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER was at Lower Elk River near Port Orford August 20. Three
were at the North Spit of Coos Bay the next day. A BARROW'S GOLDENEYE and
an AVOCET were on the North Spit August 24.

An ARCTIC TERN was observed off Cape Arago, near Coos Bay August 23. A
COMMON TERN was at the Fernhill Wetlands at Forest Grove August 24.

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was on Sauvie Island August 20, but has not been seen
since. Eleven BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were at Coon Point and four MARBLED
GODWITS were near the Narrows on the Island August 21. The next day six
SANDHILL CRANES and 17 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Coon Point. An
AMERICAN WIGEON was on the Island August 25.

A family of RING-NECKED DUCKS was observed on Morgan Lake at Baskett
Slough NWR August 24, for the first reported Willamette Valley nesting
record. The two TRUMPETER SWANS are still on the refuge and 16 GREAT
EGRETS are now gathered there. A STILT SANDPIPER has been at Ankeny NWR
most of the week.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was near the end of Royal Avenue on the east side
of Fern Ridge Reservior August 23. A possible SAGE SPARROW, a LARK
SPARROW, and a BREWER'S SPARROW were near Lower Table Rock in the Rogue
Valley August 22.

Two GREAT EGRETS and a SANDERLING were at the Umatilla NWR near Hermiston
August 21. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Odessa Campground at the south
end of Upper Klamath Lake August 21.
