Subject: Spotted Owls

1) The Spotted Owl in Everett showed no signs of hybridization that I could
see.

2) The decision to move it made alot of assumptions, several possibly false.
Locals say the bird had been there a couple days. When caught, it was well
fed. Starling are possible, but rats more likely. And there are plenty to be
had. So assuming the bird was not faring well was wrong, at least for the time
being.

3)The apparently innocuous action of returning this bird to suitable habitat
is not necessarily a favor. It could quite possibly meet its demise at the
hand of the local GH Owl or even Barred Owl.

4) If I had to pick one spot in Snohomish County where discharging a fire arm
would be hard, downtown Everett is the spot. There are lots of people around
all day and the place is heavily patrolled by cops. That is not to say it
couldn't be done, but a bird in Forest Park in Everett would have been in far
more peril. As for traffic and people noise. The only time the bird seemed
disturbed was when the crows harassed it. The owl ignored all the people.

Cheers
