Hello Tweeters,

Over the weekend (11/30) a White-throated Sparrow visited the feeders in
my back yard near Olympia. This was the 76th bird for my yard list, which
tied the number that I had from my yard in West Seattle. I lived in West
Seattle, near the junction of Alaska and California, for 5 years and 8
months (July 92 to Feb 98). I have lived here in Thurston County for only
9 months. I thought people might like to see a comparison of the two list.
The apartment in West Seattle was very urban, with a small distant view of
the sound. Our place down here is on the edge of town with a bigger yard
with more feeders. There is a wetland about 100 yards behind the house,
but not visible to us. I occasionally see ducks flying over our house to
get there. Many of the birds counted at West Seattle, like the loon and
bittern were flyovers. I do not have many flyovers for the Olympia place
yet. A strange side note is that the Common Redpoll in West Seattle landed
in a tree while I was talking to Hal Opperman on the phone one day. I was
talking to Hal on the phone down here in Olympia when, what I was pretty
sure was a Semipalmated Plover, flew past the window (I didnt see it good
enough to count it though). So, the message here is - give Hal a call if
you want to add neat birds to your yard list!
