On Saturday Kris Baker and I had the chance to observe 60 or more brown
pelicans from Cape Flattery on the Makah reservation. Other sightings
included thousands of murres and western grebes, a few red throated loons,
oystercatchers and shags, and a very nonchalant sea otter directly below us.
A spectacular place, worth the five hour trip from Seattle. But be prepared
to pass through some major timber harvest areas and some rather bumpy and
muddy roads in the final stretches of the drive. Next time we'll have to
check out Sequim for that yellow billed loon!
