Tweets,

A mini-invasion of Brown Pelicans has occurred at Port Angeles. Tonight
(Wed, 12/2) at least 43 pelicans were throughout the harbor, sitting on
floating logs, pilings, and the water. Age ratios were 33 adults (white
heads) and 10 subadult/immatures (dark heads).

Dan Anderson, my professor in college, called them WD for White head,
Dark belly (adult), and DW, for Dark head, White belly (immature).

I've noticed many reports of small numbers of pelicans at other Strait
and Puget Sound sites in western Washington lately, even though it seems
like it's time for pelicans to be heading to breeding colonies down
south. A large number of December records is unusual for the Strait and
Puget Sound. Are they seeking refuge from storms on the outer coast, or
are they gathering together before flying south?
