Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday December 3. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On November 26 a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was observed at Silver Falls State
Park, east of Salem. It remained along the creek and the gravel paths
around the North Falls Parking Lot. It was last seen November 30, but may
still be in the area.

A male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was reported November 26 along
Oceanview Drive, south of Brookings. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in the
same area the next day, but not the warbler.

The female GARGANEY is still being seen at Brownsmead, east of Astoria.

Hundreds of KITTIWAKES, many SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS, and a few SABINE'S
GULLS were moving southward just offshore during the week. On November 28
a BULLER'S SHEARWATER was off Boiler Bay Viewpoint. Quite a few lingering
BROWN PELICANS are still being seen.

A FRANKLIN'S GULL was at Brookings November 30. a late YELLOW WARBLER and
a late NASHVILLE WARBLER, several SWAMP SPARROWS, two PALM WARBLERS, and
a YELLOWTHROAT were at Millicoma Marsh in Coos Bay during the week. Four
ROCK SANDPIPERS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River November
28.

The two WHITE PELICANS that were near Coon Point on Sauvie Island since
November 7 left November 26. On November 28 two WHITE PELICANS were on
Kirk Pond at Fern Ridge Reservoir, where two wintered last year.

A female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was in the cove on Sauvie Island November
27. The winter flock of SNOW GEESE are now back on the Island and have
been seen along Oak Island Road. There are still quite a few CRANES on
the Island.

A RED-THROATED LOON was north of Vancouver November 27. A GREATER SCAUP,
a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, a COMMON LOON, and several COMMON GOLDENEYE were
near the railroad bridge on Hayden Island in North Portland during the
week. A TRUMPETER SWAN was among the goose and swan flock along Highway
47 south of Forest Grove November 27.

On November 26 a RED PHALAROPE, two RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, two PACIFIC
LOONS, a RED-NECKED GREBE, and several CANVASBACK and COMMON GOLDENEYES
joined the many water birds on Staats Pond in Keizer, north of Salem. The
phalarope and some of the ducks were gone the next day.

A late YELLOWTHROAT, six GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and three WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS were in Minto-Brown Park in Salem November 29.

Eight late TURKEY VULTURES were south of Fern Ridge Reservoir November 28.

A PACIFIC LOON was on Ochoco Reservoir near Prineville November 28. A
brown phased GYRFALCON was in Tulelake NWR in California November 24.
Watch for this bird when in southern Klamath County. A GREAT GRAY OWL was
recently seen in the Spring Creek area near La Grande. It was about two
miles down FS21 sitting on a roadside rail fence.
