Here's another possibility:

How about using small to mid-gauge chicken wire stapled loosely across areas
you want to prevent contact with or access to? Cutting it down to smaller
widths if you have only a small area to cover will further reduce its already
minimal visibility. Remove it when the spring is over if you really can't
tolerate the appearance of it. By the way, this might also keep out larger
nesting mammals out of unwanted areas - squirrels, oppossums, etc.
