Well, early for us, but right on time for them or for some other raptors.
Great Horned Owls Bubo virgianus, for example, are eyeing the den and
wondering if it couldn't be turned into a nursery by late January or
February. I've seen Red-tailed Hawks Buteo jamaicensis nest-building on the
power-poles at the base of the Roberts Bank Jetty in Week 1 January.

I guess we're deciding what's 'early' and 'late' by... what, exactly? What
sets the 'appropriate' time for us? What standard is being violated here by
these 'early' eagles? Nesting robins? Ducks? Geese?
