Further to Ken Klimko's note about the Brambling at Blackie Spit,
Tweetsters farther south may like to know that this is only one of
several that have turned up in BC over the past couple of weeks.
Localities with reports of single birds include Nanaimo, Prince George,
Williams Lake and, rumour has it, the Queen Charlottes (the undisputed
N. American champion of Brambling visits after Alaska. Vernon had two for
a while. Best to keep a watchful eye out. An easy bird to ID since it has
a prominent white rump, dark back, dark wings with big white and buffy
wingbars, and "butterscotch" orange on the chest and flanks. It is about
the same size and shape as a Rosy Finch.
