Four members of ELWAS saw 43 species on our monthly trip to Spencer Is. It
was a cloudy, cool (36-40), breezy, but dry day. Birds recorded at Ladner
Riverfront Park on way in, at sewage treatment ponds visible from road and on
south loop of Spencer Is. Last month the cross dike was cleaned up of logs
strewn on the dike and tons of rock had been brought in to build up the dike
and provide stabilization. After flooding last month, the dike has been
severely damaged, logs are strewn all over the top, rocks have been washed
away and erosion taken place. There was also a bloated, smelly, dead cow on
top of the dike. We also saw a Black-tailed Deer.
