For the past two years I participated in CBCs in the San Diego area. I
was there visiting family. I would encourage birders travelling during the
Xmas holidays to try to hook up with a CBC in the area they are visiting. It
took some doing to get signed up with a team. I started calling at least a
month in advance, but it's worth a try to just arrive and try for information.
I discovered some excellent birding spots, met some very friendly birders,
learned a lot, and enjoyed the post-count get-together.
