Hi Tweets -
We just returned from a fishing trip to a small lake west of Tonasket,
which is close to the Canadian Border in the Okanogon Valley. Around noon
each day we were treated to an incredible COMMON NIGHTHAWK display. The
birds over the lake were so numerous they were beyond counting. I am sure
well into the hundreds. They were feeding on mayflies, and at times would
fly within an arm length of us. I have been going to this lake for many
years during this month and this is the first time this has happened. In
the past we would see an occasional bird at dusk, but these birds were
active in the middle of the day.
