CBC COUNTERS ARE NEEDED IN THE FOLLOWING AREA:

Abbotsford-Mission - JAN 02, 1999

The Central Fraser Valley Naturalists' Abbotsford-Mission count circle
includes a great variety of habitats, including lakes marshes and streams,
agricultural fields, the Fraser River, the western portion of Sumas
Mountain and other forested upland areas, and urban parks and yards. We
have never had enough participants to cover these areas adequately, and
many parts go unobserved each CBC. No one is patrolling urban streets to
watch for vagrants in hedges and shrubbery (Remember the Dusky thrush!).
One or two persons try to cover Sumas Mountain. Particularly the north side
of the Fraser from the Stave River to Hatzic Prairie is very sparsely covered.

Great Egret and Gyrfalcon are a couple of past highlights. Owls are usually
well represented. American dipper is a regular. But I think we would prefer
to emphasize the potential. We really don't know what is out there and
would like to have better coverage so we can find out. Any experienced
birders who are willing to help us on January 2 would be more than welcome.
