The Vashon/Maury Island Audubon chapter announces its first-ever Christmas
Bird Count on Sunday, January 3. Our count circle nestles in the middle of
4 existing count circles: Kitsap, Seattle, Kent-Auburn, and Tacoma. The
circle includes all of Vashon/Maury Island. To the north, it includes the
southern tip of Blake Island; to the east, Seahurst and Three-Tree Point in
Burien; to the south, the middle of Dalco Passage; and to the west, a big
swath of Kitsap and Pierce counties, extending from Yukon Harbor to Bethel,
across Horseshoe Lake down to Wauna and Purdy and then through the middle
of Gig Harbor (the water body).
The count will be unofficial this first year to work out logistics and see
if we can attract participants. Please volunteer for this historic
count and ensure the long-term committment to a CBC in this area of Puget
Sound. The compiler is Sue Trevathan. You can reach her at 206-463-1484 or
by email at suetrev at ibm.net. We especially need volunteers who are
interested the Kitsap and Pierce counties' portion of the count circle.
