Teaching a wetland's workshop with Rich Horner for the last three days at the
Center for Urban Horticulture, we took advantage of yesterday's unexpected sun
and went for a quick field walk in the Montlake wetlands. Standing with 32
students, a juvenile bald eagle swept past, quickly followed by two mature
eagles. A flock of Canada geese took flight and the immature eagle appeared
to 'stumble' through the flock, then landed awkwardly in a nearby small
cottonwood. The adults followed closely, landing in very close proximity
within the same tree. The students were duly impressed and had a little more
'real' data to use for their functional assessment forms.
