Hi Tweeters,

While visiting the "Egypt, Gift of the Nile" exhibit at the
Seattle Art Museum, I couldn't help noticing the numbers of
birds that were depicted in the artwork and hieroglyphics, and
that were portrayed in the ancient artwork and carvings.
Among the kinds depicted were owls, falcons, vultures, geese,
ibis, and a quail type bird. (I didn't keep a list or make a
count, but would interested if anyone else does. I only
counted one tomb wall painting that included over thirty seven
bird images.) One ancient bas relief wall carving was an
incredibly detailed carving of an owl resembling a Short-eared
Owl.

There are so many interesting things to ponder about this
ancient civilization and one more is the prominence of birds
in their art, religion and society.
