They're getting hungry and are concentrating where
they can find food. Furthermore, there are a lot more
birds returning south from the Yukon populations this year. Whether
this is due to good carryover from last winter, or excellent
conditions on the breeding ground is guesswork, but it is
probably related to the El Nino weather conditions in the
last few seasons.

Would someone tell me why the Varied Thrushes are all over the place now
that there is snow on the ground? I just counted at least a dozen along the
road on the way to town, about 1/2 mile. I've seen one or two in my yard
before the snow but not nearly this many!
