Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Wednesday December 23. If you have anything to add

A male YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen December 20, a few miles east of
Gold Beach. If interesting in seeing this bird contact Colin Dillingham
at 541-247-4752.

The BRAMBLING continues to be seen in the neighborhood of SE 9th. and
Malden Streets, east of Sellwood Park in Portland.

Very large numbers of VARIED THRUSHES, FOX SPARROWS, HERMIT THRUSHES, and
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen during the week, especially along the
coast. TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS and GREATER YELLOWLEGS also seem to be in
higher than normal numbers. A few BROWN PELICANS are still being seen
along the coast.

A CINNAMON TEAL and the probably DUSKY FLYCATCHER were at Millicoma Marsh
in Coos Bay December 18. That day the AVOCET was still at Pony Slough and
two OLDSQUAWS were at Charleston.

The BULLOCK'S ORIOLE is still at Cape Meares Village. Another was report
December 22 from Brookings. Many SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, a KITTIWAKE, an
ANCIENT MURRELET, and a couple of SWAMP SPARROWS were at Tillamook
December 19.

A NASHVILLE WARBLER was at the mitigation area near the Astoria Airport
December 20. A small flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were at Bay Center
and a large dark GYRFALCON was at Leadbetter Point Washington December
19. Watch for them in Oregon.

Four TRUMPETER SWANS, a COMMON LOON, and a RED-THROATED LOON were enar
Post Office Lake north of Vancouver December 20. Seven SHORT-EARED OWLS
were at nearby Shillapo Lake that day.

An immature GOLDEN EAGLE was along Rendanaar Road on Sauvie Island
December 20. A bright BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER was visiting a cake of
peanut suet in Lake Oswego December 22.

Lake Labish and Staats Lake near Keizer have been especially good lately
for waterbirds. The BURROWING OWL along 119th Street east of Salem is
still being seen.

A TREE SWALLOW and a SNOW GOOSE were at Ankeny NWR December 19. Forty
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were found on the Salem Christmas Count December
19. A BONAPARTE'S GULL was near Brownsville December 18.

A VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW was near Coburg, north of Eugene December 18. A
HARRIS'S SPARROW was at a feeder north of Eugene December 21. The two
WHITE PELICANS are still near the dam at Fern Ridge Reservoir. The Fisher
Butte Unit of Fern Ridge, just north of Highway 126 now has a VESPER
SPARROW, a TREE SPARROW, several WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and a SWAMP
SPARROW.

On December 16, a BLACK PHOEBE was at the log pond in Sutherlin. The
December 19 Roseburg Count found some TREE SWALLOWS and CHIPPING
SPARROWS, a SAY'S PHOEBE, and a PACIFIC LOON. For the third year in a row
the resident COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD at a Grants Pass feeder was recorded on
the count.

An OLDSQUAW, two WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKERS and 24 SCRUB JAYS were found on
the December 19 Bend Count. A flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was north of
Silver Lake, and another flock was near Picture Rock Pass in Lake County
December 17. A MOCKINGBIRD was in Lakeview December 21.

The December 19 Malheur NWR Count found a WHITE PELICAN, a GREAT EGRET,
and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS.
