A cold, 23, morning at the Lake Hills Greenbelt. We have had 18 the two
previous mornings. Larsen L., 7 acres, is frozen over except for small area
at inlet. The channel connects it and Phantom Lake, 63 acres and 1-1/2 mile
south. Phantom Lake is open and the channel itself is open. So most of the
waterfowl are at Phantom L. It had about 20 Common Mergansers and 80-100
American Wigeon as well as smaller numbers of Ruddy Duck, Hooded Merganser,
Ring-necked Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes, Bufflehead, Double-crested Cormorant,
and of course Mallard and
American Coot. The BELTED KINGFISHER, a female, was perched on the railing of
a bridge crossing the channel near the Lake Hills Library.
