While I was participating on the Port Gamble CBC I had an encounter with a
Great Horned Owl that I wanted to relate. I heard the owl initially in the
distance as soon as I got out of the car. The initial play of the tape
brought it in closer. On the second play it flew across the road and could
be seen silhouetted in the sky. On the third play it again flew parallel
to the road. When it responded there was a noticable rise in the
inflection of the hoots. On the fourth play he flew directly overhead and
again gave the "agitated" call. We didn't try for a fifth play. It seems
that this particular bird was very territorial for the time of year.
