Subject: RBA: Arctic Loon at Brownsmead, OR
Date: Dec 26 17:31:39 1998
From: Mike Patterson - mpatters at orednet.org

A more than likely ARCTIC LOON was in the Blind Slough channel along
Pentilla Rd (Oregon DeLorme pg 71 c5, road not shown on map.)

The bird had a distinct set of "tail lights" (white flank patches) showing
above the water line. It had a white cheek/ear patch fading into brownish
at the back of the head and nape. The nape and back of the head were paler
than the crown or lower back of the neck.

Also in the slough were 8 RED-THROATED LOON, a PACIFIC LOON and a COMMON
LOON.

To find Pentilla Rd, turn north from hwy 30 at the Loggerburger Restaurant
in Knappa. Turn right again after about 50 meters. Drive for about 2 mi to
the stop sign (right turn permitted without stopping). Turn right. Drive
another 3 or so miles to the big bridge and turn left onto Barendse Rd (don't
look for a sign it's been stolen.) make the first left after the bridge onto
Pentilla Rd.
