Two neat sitings this rainy Sunday afternoon in beautiful downtown Madrona
Neighborhood.
1. An almost all white robin, pink legged, dark eyed, yellow bill, with
asymetrical dark patches on its wings. The body, head, and tail were all
white. This is the second day we've seen it.
2. A red-breasted sapsucker working over the trunk of a huge Doug Fir that
now looks as if it had been iced with sap frosting. We think red-breasted
is a stupid name for something with such a glorious red head. We looked sap
eating up in the bird encyclopedia to find that sapsuckers and a wide array
of birds including Anna's hummingbirds, enjoy the sap and the insects that
get glued into it. Sap eating is very wide spread among our avian pals,
some of whom get drunk off it. At least they don't drive.

Happy New Year.
