On Sunday, Dec. 27th ,the Sauvie Island C.B.C. was held in pouring rain
and wind gusts to forty miles per hour. Most of the usual birds and
observers were hunkered down somewhere warm and cozy. The few people who
bravely went afield found only 71 species on the Washington side of the
count circle, a new low record. Best species found by our group were:

TRUMPETER SWAN - 1 at Post Office Lake, there were four there last
Monday.
CINNAMON TEAL - 3 along the Salmon Creek Trail.
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK - 1 in the willow forest around the lake at the
Ridgefield Refuge Carty Unit.
GREATER YELLOWLEGS - 6 in the newly excavated pond north of Post Office
Lake.
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW - 1 at the silage pile at Shillapoo Lake, north of
Vancouver Lake Park.
