Some winters when the weather has got very cold the sapsuckers have come
around and we have found some dead ones so we rigged up a hummingbird feeder
with a tube attachment on it and had it drip syrup down the tree so it would
flow into one or two holes the sapsuckers had made. We did see them feed
there at times. We hoped we were helping. We used the usual strength for
hummers 1 of sugar 4 of water. We did try maple syrup deluted one year but
they did not take it.
