I've had Barn Owls nest in a "dog house" I hung in a ponderosa pine
in a small (less than 10 acre) woodlot. I made a crude box about 2
feet wide, 2 feet tall, and 30 inches deep with an approx. 10 inch
diameter entrance hole about 2 inches from the base.

Here on the Palouse where Barn Owls are marginal, I've had birds nest
in 2 of the last 5 years and bring off 6 chicks.
