Thanks Rick,

This was a timely posting to Tweeters. My brother is visiting from
Madison, WI and these were two birds ( of many) that he wanted to see.
This morning Carolyn Eagan and I took him to Discovery Park and found the
Anna's Hummingbird near the lookout at the Daybreak Star Center. We also
saw a Townsend's Warbler at the same spot. We then
set off on the Wolf Tree Nature Trail from the Center and heard the Hutton's
Vireo. ( The Trail is also accessible from the North Parking Lot). It took
us awhile to locate the bird but we were finally successful. It was with
several Ruby-crowned Kinglets so it was nice to be able to compare them side
by side and see the differences. This trail was very birdy this morning
with many Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Chestnut-backed and
Blackcapped Chickadees, Brown Creepers, Spotted Towhees, Song and Fox
Sparrows. We saw at least two other Hutton's Vireos in the same general
area. The road behind the new Visitor's center produced Varied
Thrushes. The most surprising find of the day at least for Carolyn and I
was a Horned Lark that we found on the trail between the Light House and
the Sewage Treatment Plant. Not a bird that we usually see in Seattle.

Hi Tweeters,

Cindy Sprecher and I walked around Discovery Park on Sunday...a beautiful
morning. I was impressed with all the singing. In addition to a nice
assortment of the usual stuff, we got some great looks at a singing and
displaying male Anna's Hummingbird at the overlook near the Native American
Structure. The call sounds a lot like 'static' to me. Also, we heard and
later located a singing Hutton's Vireo near the new pond over by the army
housing area. I always think, "what an annoying call' just before it dawns
on me what it is.
