Good evening,

A fellow lurker and I enjoyed a few brief moments of Bald Eagle and
Red-tail Hawk disputes, and I would like to ask tweeters at large to
suggest the meaning of it:

During a glorious sun-break, we found a pair of adult eagles soaring
upwards in a spiral, with an adult red-tail harrying them. The hawk would
dive-bomb the eagles, causing some real cool evasive maneuvers by the
eagles (rather reminded me of how crows treat red-tails). After a bit we
saw another adult red-tail join in the crowd.

I've assumed that the red-tails are defending a territory. Besides the
rather obvious implication of this by the behavior, we've seen two
red-tails in this location last spring and summer (by the way, until
today I had only seen one red-tail all winter). I tried to keep an eye out
for their possible nest-site, but didn't find it - so this kind of
confirms their intentions, no?

A further interesting note: this wasn't exactly a remote location, it all
took place about a mile north of the I5 and I405 (northern) interchange!
