I held this job one summer - at that point Massachusetts Audubon was
paying a stipend. I can vouch for it being a terrific learning
experience, far and away the most interesting 'field assistant' type job
I've ever had. Terns are still some of my favorite birds, despite (or
because of) their dive bombing me mercilessly for weeks and weeks that
summer.
