This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen Jan 31 along the Yakima River
in west Richland, Benton Co., WA by Tony Greager. Several folks saw
it on Feb 1 and Mike and MerryLynn Denny report seeing it on Feb 5.
>From I-182 in Richland, take WA 240 toward Vantage. Near the
Richland landfill, turn left (south) on Grosscup. Look for the bird at
the corner of Grosscup and Snively Roads. It's perching in trees along
the river and can be seen from the bridges. WA DeLorme 39, B-6, T10N,
R27E, Sec. 30.

Two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, a single GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROW, and a HERMIT THRUSH were in nearby Kennewick, Benton
Co., WA, according to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The birds were
along the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Nature Trail which is
along the Columbia River. If you need directions, give Mike a call at
509-529-0080. WA DeLorme 39, C-7.

The adult MEW GULL first reported in Spokane, WA on Nov 15 by Jeff
Wisman apparently flew up the Spokane River to Coeur d'Alene,
Kootenai Co., ID for most of December and January, has decided to
return to Spokane. Jeff reports an adult MEW GULL at Riverfront Park
on Feb 1. Riverfront Park is in downtown Spokane. It would be fun to
have folks take a good look around Riverfront Park and the north shore
of Lake Coeur d'Alene to make sure we really don't have two. The
Coeur d'Alene spot is on the north side of the lake, downtown CdA,
just west of the Coeur d'Alene Resort on the sandy beach.
ID DeLorme 60, B-1.5.

Another MEW GULL, this one a second-winter bird, was at Swallow's
Park on the south end of Clarkston, Asotin Co., WA on Jan 31. Dave
Holick and I saw the bird at the swimming area, roosting with Ring-
billeds, a couple of Herrings, and a couple of Californias. Swallow's
Park is along WA 129 along the Snake River. WA DeLorme AB-8.
hours later I spied, probably the same bird, at Kiwanis Park, just
downstream on the Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., ID side. Kiwanis Park is
the first parking area off Snake River Drive just south of the blue
Interstate Bridge.

Two HARRIS'S SPARROWS and 1 WHITE-THROATED SPARROW were
at Madame Doriane (sp?) Park in western Walla Walla Co., WA, on Jan
31, according to Deb Beutler and James Holloway. Mike and
MerryLynn Denny report only one Harris's on Feb 5. The park is just
north of the junction of US 12 and US 730, at about US 12 milepost
307. Both species have been seen with consistency all winter - the
Harris's numbers fluctuating from 1-6. Look for the sparrows along the
little dirt road, which is just beyond the bathrooms, and runs west along
the Walla Walla River. Just across the road at the Walla Walla River
delta, the Denny's report 10 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and 1 adult and 4
second-winter GLAUCOUS GULLS on Feb 5. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

Three DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were at the confluence of the
Clearwater and Snake Rivers in Lewiston, ID / Clarkston, WA on Sat,
Jan 31. Dave Holick and I saw the birds on the north side of the
confluence, just on the Idaho side. Nearby, at West Pond, which is the
big pond along the Levee Bypass (aka, US 12 bypass around
downtown Lewiston) right next to the railroad bridge, Cindy
McCormick saw 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS on Feb 2. ID
DeLorme 54, A-1.

The single ROSS'S GOOSE reported about 5 miles west of Orofino,
Clearwater Co., ID on Sun, Jan 25 by Charles Swift was seen again by
Dave Holick on Feb 1. The bird was at a couple of small ponds
adjacent to the Hidden Village Mobile Home Park along US 12. It was
associating with a mixed group of wild and domestic geese. ID
DeLorme 54, A3, right at the top on the crease. Dave said it
approached to within 10 feet of his car.

Two SNOWY OWLS were seen by Dick Johnson just east of Moses
Lake, Grant Co., WA on Feb 1. The birds were along road L NE, which
runs north and south east of Moses Lake, near the airport, just north of
the I-90. In particular, Dick saw the birds east of L NE between 3 NE
and Nelson Road, which is 1 mile south of 3 NE and labeled as 2 NE on
the WA DeLorme. The birds were on the irrigation pipes. WA
DeLorme 69, CD-6.5, T19N, R29E, Sec. 19.

At least one BLUE JAY is still in and around Moscow, Latah Co., ID.
Dale Goble reports one at his home on Homestead Street in north
central Moscow on Tues, Feb 3.

If you need any information about the sightings, give me a call at
208-883-0943.

Good birding.
