February 8, 8:25 am. This is Steve Maldenow (sp). Yesterday I birded
Cameno island. The area around Stanwood didn't have too much, but at Bend-
Ivey Rd there was a tremendous number of ducks and an adult HARLAN'S HAWK. On
Norman Rd between Silvana and the Stanwoos area there was another HARLAN'S
HAWK and a flock of 50 AMERICAN PIPITS. At the end of Bow Rd, just south of
Stanwood there were about 20,000 SNOW GEESE without any other species mixed
in, a GOLDEN EAGLE and 20 or 30 BALD EAGLES. At Utsalady Bay there were 8
EARED GREBES and a good number of other LOONS, GREBES, etc. At the northwest
corner of Cameno Islanr there were about 50 MARBLED MURRELETS . Good luck and

February 7, 9:46 pm. Harold Whitlanded (sp?) (425) 391-8494. I saw what I
believed to be an immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK today at the Sammish Flats.
Rather small hawk, dark above and below with a strong reddish cast all over
and a strong under-wing pattern, divided near the center with dark forward and
light to the back. The bird was on a wire on the Bayview-Ediston Rd about a
mile south of the T-junction with Sammish Island Rd.

February 7, 7:39 am. This is Steve Maldenow calling regarding the TUFTED
DUCK. I appreciate Tom LaRussa's comments, however, the white in the face is
clearly outsude the range of the TUFTED DUCK unless this is being proposed as
some significant abberent bird. The width of the bill appears to be outside
the range as well. Good luck and good birding.

February 6, 4:27 pm. Tom LaRussa (206) 782-7342. I just wanted to make
people aware that that duck in Everett, just over the town line on Lowlammer
Rd, reported by Steve Maldenow in late December is still there. It is a
TUFTED DUCK, maybe crossed with some scaup. Probably within the variation of
TUFTED DUCK and maybe a femal TUFTED DUCK. I'le be interested in having some
other people look at it. It is right in a little farm pond right next to the
road over the town line going into Everett.

February 6, 8:00 am. This is Wayne Weaver calling from Delta, BC (604)
597-7201. Yesterday, February 5th at 2:00 pm I had a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD on Pt
Roberts just west of the Pt Roberts Marina at the turn around at the end of
Ocean View Crest. This bird has been in the area since sometime in December.
Also , in the Vancouver area the drake COMMON EIDER was seen in Stanley Park
on the 1st and 2nd of February. It has been in this area near Second Beach in
Stanley Park or just south for several weeks now. The XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD, at
221 2nd St in Gibson, just northwest of Vancouver was there on January 31st
and is probably still there. For further updates on these and other rare bird

February 5, 5:07 pm. This is Mike Whiler (sp?) of Redmond, 868-4679.
Birded with Michael Mann at the Twin Rivers Wildlife Management Management
Area in Monroe. We were able to find the RUSTY BLACKBIRD in the spot
designated previously. However, we were unable to find the HARRIS' SPARROW.
But we did have a MERLIN harrassing CROWNED SPARROWS. Thank you and good

February 3, 8:47 am. this report was received yesterday evening from Curtis
Pearson, (206) 722-9107. On Sunday February 1st the CRESTED CARACARA was
seen in Neah Bay both morning and afternoon northwset of the Senior Center,
both flying and perched in tall snags. Also seen were an immature GLAUCOUS
GULL and a BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE on the beack west of the Senior Center.
