I admit to being a very novice birder. While driving 70 mph through the
Skagit Valley yesterday on our way to Ross Dam, our family observed a group
of large white birds feeding in the fields near the Conway exit.
Fortunately on the way back, they were still there and I got my husband to
pull over on the freeway so we could get an I.D. They were swans but I'm
unsure if they were Trumpeter or Tundra. I saw no signs of any yellow
patch near the eye so am I safe in assuming they were Trumpeter? I can't
imagine that these birds are an unusual sight so I'm hoping someone else
can provide a positive I.D.. Thanks for your help.
