Haven't they had a number of very bad growing years, also? I remember
being back there a few years ago for a wedding, and all the road-side
cherry stands were closed - even up in Northport. I will always remember
buying a pint or two of the black sweet cherries every day off from summer
camp, and slurping them down in the hot sun while watching tourists come
and go at the World's Largest Crucifix (which was just down the road from
camp).
