The Conservation Data Centre in Victoria keeps records of all records of
Endangered species/subspecies, including the "Islands" Goshawk (which is
found on Vancouver Island, as well as the Queen Charlottes). I have the
address somewhere, but it shouldn't be hard to find. I talked to someone
about a year ago (sorry, I've forgotten the name) who had been contracted
to find goshawk nests on Vancouver Island--for every nest found, 40 acres
is put aside, I believe.

My only personal experience is on Hippa Island in the Queen Charlottes,
where I saw one chasing a Steller's Jay (another subspecies endemic to the
area) through dense brush. There was evidence nearby of dead Ancient
Murrelets, with the feathers spread in the signature Accipiter circle. I
doubt it was a Cooper's Hawk that did this, but can't say for sure.
However, it is probably a reasonable assumption to assume that goshawks
on the Islands prey heavily on the larger alcids.
