This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Monday February 9, Tuesday 7:00 am
update.

The featured bird for today's report is HARRIS' SPARROW.

Sightings for Monday February, 9:

The Harris' Sparrow was again seen under the stone bridge in Stanley Park.

Two Peregrine Falcons were seen in downtown Vancouver: one on the Hyatt
Regency Hotel and one on the Benthall Centre.

A Merlin was seen on 80th at 124th in Surrey.

Sunday, February 8:

The XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD continued to be seen at 221 2nd Avenue in Gibsons.

A Crested Myna was seen at 76th Avenue and Hudson in Vancouver.

A Hermit's Thrush was in Queen Elizabeth Park.

A Northern Shrike was at 33A in Ladner and at Reifel the Virginia Rails
were heard calling.

Saturday, February 7;

The male Mountain Bluebird was again seen near the marina at Point
Robert's.

A female Anna's Hummingbird was seen taking away nesting material in a
location in South Surrey. This is a week earlier than usual.

The Clark's Grebe was still in Richmond along the middle arm of the Fraser,
close to shore, near the sea plane base. The bird does not as a rule
associate with the few Western Grebes in the area but keeps to itself.

A Snow Bunting was half way up the Tsawwessen Jetty on the south side.

A count of Trumpeter Swans from Boundry Bay Airport, the Deas Island Tunnel
area and Westham Island totaled 1225 birds.

Reifel had a Saw-whet Owl and an American Bittern.

Campbell Valley Park had 6 Hutton's Vireos, including 2 pairs with singing
males and 1 Long-eared Owl.

The unidentified shrike continued to be seen at the Burnaby Foreshore Park.

Friday February 6:

A 2nd year Glaucous Gull and 6 Western Gulls were seen along Burns drive at
the highway 99 and highway 10 interchange. There was also a pale Merlin of
the Richardsonii race in the area.

The Willet was again seen at the base of the Tsawwassen Jetty. Halfway up
the jetty on the north side were 15 Black Turnstones, 5 Black
Oystercatchers and 2 Rock Sandpipers.
