Hi Meredith, There are no fees at Turnbull NWR during the winter months, Nov.
thru Feb., but there is an explanation for the good price. As you know
Turnbull is a great shallow water estuary and attracts large numbers of
waterfowl as well as pine forest passerines. Problem is, the shallow water
freezes easily and the birds go elsewhere. Having said that, we've had a very
mild winter and I wouldn't be surprised if the water has opened up. You may
have just talked me into going out tomorrow to check it out. It's not gated,
so daylight is the only limiting hours.
